T
he research and development work undertaken
in the LISI MEDICAL Division focuses mainly
on the implementation of technologies and
manufacturing processes to provide new types of
products to the Division’s customers. It is indeed these
customers who undertake the design of implants they
commercialize on theirmarkets.
Newmachiningprocesses
In 2013, LISI MEDICAL has developed new methods of
machining by grinding, which allowed it to acquire new
knowledgeonnew typesof implants,suchaskneeprostheses.
The technology usedon the Caen site offers a level of finesse
of polish far superior to conventionalmachining techniquesby
milling. Thismethod also allows to significantly improve the
leadingedgeofsometoolsrecentlydevelopedbyLISIMEDICAL,
suchassurgical rasps.
LISIMEDICALteamshavealsoworkedontheacquisitionofnew
know-how inducedby the takeoverofSJ industry, specialized in
machiningofplasticmaterialslikePEEK(polyetheretherketone).
This material, often used in the aerospace industry, offers a
verygood resistance towear and tear. It is used in themedical
industry tomanufacture cervical cages, or even screws and
plates for thespine.
